Land of the Morning Light

Introduction

Land of the Morning Light is the upcoming expansion for Black Desert Online. It is the first part of the Haso continent and has been in development for a many years now. Back in September we got a first glimpse of the new region at the Heidel Ball with more info that followed this Calpheon Ball. There we got confirmation that the region is inspired by the Joseon Dynasty, featuring unique terrain, buildings and vegetation. It'll come with an upgrade path to turn your gloves into the new best in slot gloves titled Dahn's Gloves, a new crystal called Bonghwang's Tear, a new sidestory and new bosses.

Release Date

The release date for Land of the Morning Light is set for mid february 2023 for the korean version of the game. We're expecting the release to be delayed by 2-3 months for the global version of the game due to localization.

Monsters/Grindspots

Unlike previous expansions the land of the morning light will not come with new grindspots. Instead the region will be filled with various bosses which vary in difficulty. You will be able to adjust the difficulty of the bosses and work your way up to the hardest ones. All of the bosses will be soloable but also have a party/guild mode where mechanics change to make the fight more challenging. You can see the preview of the bosses in the images here:

New Items

Sadly there has been no mention of how the new Dawn's Gloves will be obtained or its stats yet. The upgrade path will probably be similar to the upgrade system we've seen with Labreska's Helmet and Fallen God's Armor.

PA also confirmed the addition of a new crystal called "Bonghwang's Tear" which is different to existing crystals and will be best in slot. You will only be able to socket one of these at a time into an exclusive slot. As you can see in the tooltip it'll feature a broad range of stats:

As mentioned the region will be part of the Haso continent which is located in the north of the BDO Map and where you currently find Port Ratt. The terrain of the new region will be more mountainous than you might expect and also include new islands which were partly shown in the trailer. In terms of size it seems to be comparable to Drieghan + O'dyllita - which if true is a nice step up from previous releases.

Plants

With a region so rich in vegetation, we're expecting a lot of new plants to be added to the game. We've already seen a few of them in the trailer, but there's probably a lot more to come. Below you can find a selection of plants we're likely to see.

Architecture

The architecture of the new region will be inspired by the Joseon Dynasty and quite different from what we've seen so far. You can find illustrations of the buildings below to get an idea of what to expect.
