Dreaming of spending his life catching boatloads of fish, he sailed for 5 years until a massive storm hit Balenos, washing away his hopes and dreams in an instant. He got stranded on a distant island and struggled to survive for a time, but at some point he mastered life on the island. The island was discovered long after, and the people who found Gerold suggested he leave with them. Yet for whatever reason, he refused to give up his life of day-to-day struggle on the island. Nowadays, he sells island specialties to visitors.
